BREAD & BUTTER PUDDING 
1/2 c. golden raisins
3 tbsp. butter
2 eggs
5 slices day-old bread
2 c. milk
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Soak raisins in hot water for 5 minutes. Trim crusts from bread, spread 1 side with butter, cut in half. Put bread butter side up in greased 8 inch baking dish. Drain raisins, sprinkle over bread. Heat milk and sugar until steaming. Stir in vanilla.

In mixing bowl, beat eggs lightly, then gradually stir in hot milk. Pour mixture over bread. Bake uncovered for 30 minutes in preheated oven at 350 degrees until golden brown or knife inserted in center comes out clean. Serves 4.
