SOPPIN' BISCUITS FROM SCRATCH | |
3 c. flour 2 tbsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1 1/2 c. buttermilk Bacon drippings Secret to golden brown biscuits is to turn over in bacon drippings then bake at 450 degrees until golden brown. Sift flour into large mixing bowl. Add baking powder and salt. Mix, then add buttermilk 1/2 and stir in and add slowly the rest or until a heavy batter. Turn out on floured dough board. Knead until you can turn it over and it's smooth. Roll out (or pat out with hand) until 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick. Cut with biscuit cutter. Have melted drippings in pan - turn over in drippings. Cook at 450 degrees until brown. |
