HERMAN COFFEE CAKE 
1 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 c. Herman starter
1/3 c. oil
1 egg
1/2 c. chopped nuts

TOPPING:

1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp. flour
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp. sugar
2 tbsp. butter

This is for an 8 or 9-inch square pan. Double both for 9x13 inch pan.

In large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder and soda and salt. Add starter, oil, egg, and nuts. Stir to mix well. Spread in greased and floured pan. Cut butter (at room temperature) into topping ingredients until crumbly. Sprinkle on top of cake. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 30-35 minutes for 8 or 9-inch pan or 45 minutes for 9x13 inch pan until browned and pick inserted comes out clean. Cool slightly in pan or on rack. Serve warm.
