CHEESE BISCUITS 
2 c. unsifted all-purpose flour
1 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. vegetable shortening
2/4 c. buttermilk
1/3 c. shredded Cheddar cheese

Sift dry ingredients into bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in buttermilk and cheese; mix to a soft dough. Place on lightly floured surface; knead gently about 20 seconds. Roll dough 1/2 inch thick; cut with biscuit cutter dipped in flour and place on ungreased baking sheet. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Bake 12 minutes or until golden brown. Makes 12 biscuits.
