TURTLES 
2 c. pecan halves
36 caramels
3 tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2/3 c. chocolate chips
1 1/2 tsp. shortening

Butter 2 cookie sheets. Arrange nuts in clusters. Place caramels and butter in the top of double boiler and heat until melted. Stir occasionally. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Drop in center of each nut cluster. Allow to cool. Melt chocolate and shortening. Spread over caramels.
