MABEL'S HOT YEAST ROLLS 
1 c. warm water
1 c. milk, warm
1 pkg. yeast
1/4 c. sugar
1/3 c. shortening
1 egg
1 tsp. salt
5 c. flour (all-purpose)

Mix the first 6 ingredients well. Add salt and gradually add flour; mix well. Turn out on floured board. Knead 5 minutes. Turn into a greased bowl so that top of dough is greased. Set in a draft free place and let rise until double in size. Knead down well. Pinch off small pieces for rolls. Let rise and bake at 350 degrees until golden brown, about 30 minutes.

Wonderful recipe! Minimal changes of substituting butter for shortening and increasing sugar to 1/3 cup made rolls even better. Let rise at least 1 hour first then 45 minutes second time. Thanks Mabel!
