ORANGE DATE NUT CAKE | |
Bring to boil juice of one orange and 1/2 cup sugar. Let stand until cake is done, then pour over cake while it is still warm. 1 1/2 c. sugar 1/2 c. shortening 2 eggs 2 c. flour 1 c. dates 1 c. pecans 1 tsp. salt Pulp and rind of 1 orange 1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 1 c. sour milk Cream shortening, add sugar, then eggs. Add alternately flour and milk. Flour pecans and dates lightly and add. Bake in 9 x 13 pan 35 to 40 minutes at 350 degrees. Pour over juice and sugar mixture over cake while still warm. Spread frosting. FROSTING: 1 c. sugar 1 c. cream or evaporated milk 1 tbsp. butter 1/2 c. chopped pecans Cook together sugar, milk and butter. Add pecans. Spread on cake. |
