1 c. flour
1 c. boiling water
2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. sugar
1 egg
2 tbsp. shortening
2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nuts

Pour boiling water over raisins and soda, then let cool. Mix all other ingredients in order with raisins. Grease loaf pans or 1 pound coffee cans and bake 1 to 1 1/2 hours at 350 degrees.
