GRANDMA'S HOMEMADE BREAD 
1 c. water
1 c. milk
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. salt
2 tbsp. shortening
1 cake yeast, dissolved in water mentioned
6 to 7 c. flour

Mix all ingredients, then knead on counter for at least 10 minutes. Place in warm area, covered with moist towel. Let rise 2 hours, then knead 5 minutes more. Place in loaf pans and let rise 15 minutes. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes, then turn oven down to 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Spread butter on top of hot loaves and let cool.
