SHOOFLY PIE 
1 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp. shortening
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 cup table syrup
1 cup hot water
1 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in a little of the hot water
1 (9-inch) unbaked pie shell

Mix into crumbs the flour, brown sugar and shortening. Keep out 1/2 cup crumbs to sprinkle on top of pie.

Combine remaining crumbs with the egg, table syrup, hot water and baking soda. Pour this into unbaked 9-inch pie shell. Sprinkle crumbs on top.

Bake in 375°F oven for 40 to 45 minutes.
