Just put these ingredients in a bowl in this order and mix together:

1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. vegetable oil
3 tbsp. dark molasses
2 eggs
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cardamom (optional)
1 c. walnuts, chopped
1 c. raisins or diced dates (or 1/2 c. each)
1 (16 oz.) can applesauce
2 tsp. baking soda
2 to 2 1/2 c. flour
