APPLE ROLL | |
4 good sized apples or more 1 1/2 c. sugar 1 pt. water 1. Select apples that will cook quickly. Peel, core, and chop fine. 2. Put sugar and water in deep baking pan over slow fire. 3. While syrup is cooking make up a rich biscuit dough. 4. Roll out about 1/2 inch thick. 5. Spread with chopped apples. 6. Roll into a long roll. 7. Cut into pieces about 1 1/2 inches wide. 8. Place cut side down in hot syrup. 9. Place a small piece of butter on top and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. 10. Bake until apples are cooked and the crust is a golden brown. 11. Turn onto platter and pour syrup all around them. 12. May be topped with whipped cream. Bake about 25 to 30 minutes in a hot oven. We made it into about a dozen servings in a 9 x 14 inch pan. Served it warm right out of the pan. I can't ever remember turning it out on a platter. RICH BISCUIT DOUGH: 2 c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 2 tbsp. sugar 4 tsp. baking powder 4 tbsp. shortening 3/4 c. milk 1. Sift dry ingredients. 2. Cut in shortening. 3. Add the milk to make a soft dough. 4. Use as directed above. |
