DEVIL DOGS 
BATTER:

2 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg

Sift together first 6 ingredients into mixing bowl. Add next 4 ingredients and blend. Drop by teaspoonful (2" apart) onto greased and floured cookie sheet. Bake at 425 degrees for 5 to 7 minutes. Put 2 cookies together with filling.

FILLING:

1/3 c. evaporated milk
2/3 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Beat ingredients (milk, shortening, sugar, salt and vanilla) for 5 minutes in an electric mixer.
