CANDIED FRUIT SQUARES | |
2 qts. popped popcorn 1 c. sugar 1/3 c. dark or light corn syrup 1/2 c. chopped, mixed candied fruits Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Place popcorn in a large 4 inch deep buttered baking pan. Keep warm in the oven. Butter a 9 inch square glass baking dish. In a large saucepan, cook sugar and corn syrup until mixture reaches 250 degrees on a candy thermometer. Remove from heat and add finely chopped candied fruits. Remove popcorn from oven. Pour syrup mixture immediately over popcorn and stir until well mixed. Pack into buttered baking dish. When hardened, cut into squares. Makes 36 squares. VARIATION: Substitute spiced gum drops for candied fruit. |
