OLD FASHIONED STACK CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1/3 c. molasses
1 egg, beaten
3 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 c. buttermilk

Cream shortening and molasses; add egg. Mix dry ingredients and add milk. Mix to a stiff dough. Divide into nine pieces and roll each to thickness of pie dough. Bake 12 to 15 minutes. Place on large platter or serving plate. Spread sweeten, thick applesauce between layers. Let set overnight or longer.
