2 c. sifted flour
1 1/3 c. sugar
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. Crisco
1 c. less 2 tbsp. milk
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs, unbeaten

Sift dry ingredients in bowl. Drop in Crisco. Add 2/3 of milk, then vanilla and beat 200 strokes (or 2 minutes by hand or mixer at low speed). Scrape bowl or beater. Add eggs and remaining milk, and beat 200 strokes. Bake in two deep 8 inch greased cake pans at 375 degrees for 25-35 minutes. Frost between layers and top of cake with your favorite frosting.
