OLD VIRGINIA BATTER BREAD 
1 c. regular cornmeal
1 tsp. salt
2 c. boiling water
1 lg. can evaporated milk
2 eggs
2 tbsp. Crisco
1 tsp. baking powder

Pour boiling water over meal to which salt has been added. Beat well. Add milk; stir. Pour melted shortening, eggs, and baking powder and mix well. Bake at 400 degrees for 35 minutes.
