ENGLISH COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
1 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 c. cold coffee
2 c. cooked raisins
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
Flour, enough to make a stiff dough

Cream shortening with sugars; add coffee and eggs. Stir in raisins, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and enough to make stiff dough. Drop by teaspoon on a greased cookie sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes at 350 to 375 degrees. Applesauce or mincemeat may be used in place of the raisins.
