JAM CAKE 
1 c. white sugar
1/2 c. butter
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 c. jam (any flavor - strawberry is especially good)
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. allspice
2 c. sifted all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda

Cream shortening and sugar until very fluffy. Add eggs, beating until well blended. Add jam. Mix well. Sift together dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture alternately with the buttermilk and soda with have been mixed together. Pour into well greased and floured 12 x 8 x 2 inch cake pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes or until cake is done.
