MOM'S BUTTERMILK BISCUITS | |
2 c. sifted all-purpose flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 c. vegetable shortening 3/4 c. buttermilk or sour milk 1/2 tbsp. sugar Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Sift together all dry ingredients. Using a fork, cut in the shortening. Slowly add enough milk to hold batter together. Place dough on lightly floured board and knead for 25 seconds. Use additional flour, if needed in the kneading process. Roll in hands, squeeze out, one at a time, small balls which should be patted flat with the heel of your hand, or use biscuit cutter. Place biscuits in a well-greased round cake pan. Allow biscuits to touch one another until pan is full. Bake until golden brown, about 20 minutes. Serve hot. |
