MATRIMONY CAKE 
1 1/2 c. rolled oats
1 1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. butter
1 tsp. baking powder
1 c. brown sugar
2 c. dates
1 c. boiling water
1 tbsp. brown sugar
lemon juice or cinnamon to taste

Mix flour, salt, soda, butter, baking powder and 1 cup brown sugar until crumbly. Pack half in greased pan. Combine remaining ingredients and boil 5 minutes, spread over crumbs. Cover with other half of crumbs.

Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.
