GRANDMOTHER'S ICE BOX ROLLS
All ingredients need to be cold or room temperature. Any heated items need to be less than 115 degrees.

6 c. flour (approximately)
1 stick butter (cut into pieces)
1/2-1 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. or 1 packet yeast
1 c. milk, scalded & then cooled
1 c. water
Melted butter

Mix the ingredients together adding 1 cup of flour at a time. Knead for 5 minutes. Put in a container large enough for the mixture to rise. Cover the container and refrigerate overnight.

The next day, form the rolls and dip each into the cooled melted butter. Place close together in a baking pan or on a cookie sheet. Let rise a couple of hours in a place free from drafts. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

If using wheat flour, add gluten which can be purchased in the health food section of the grocery store. Or add 1 additional tablespoon yeast. Three cups of white flour and 3 cups of wheat flour make a nice combination, but additional yeast or the gluten need to be added.
