CHOCOLATE, DATE AND NUT COOKIES 
1 c. flour
1 c. chopped walnuts
1 c. chopped dates
1 c. chocolate bits
1/3 c. Crisco
1/2 c. dark brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tbsp. boiling water

Sift flour over nuts, dates and chocolate bits; set it aside.

Cream shortening and dark brown sugar, then add egg and salt. When fluffy, add to dry ingredients. Dissolve 1/3 teaspoon baking soda into 1 1/2 tablespoons boiling water, add immediately.

Mix all ingredients lightly and drop by teaspoon on greased cookie sheet. Bake 10 minutes, 425 degree oven.
