BRAIDED MORNING COFFEE CAKE 
2 pkgs. yeast
1/2 c. warm water
1 1/4 c. evaporated milk
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. sugar
1 egg, beaten
5 c. all-purpose flour

TOPPING:

1 egg, beaten
4 tbsp. granulated sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon

Dissolve yeast in warm water in a bowl. Add evaporated milk, salt, sugar and beaten egg. Add 1 1/2 cups flour. Beat until well combined. Add remaining flour, little by little, kneading dough until smooth and elastic. Cover. Let rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes. Punch down. Turn out onto floured surface. Knead until smooth. Divide dough into 2 equal pieces. Cut each into 3 pieces. Roll out to form a strand. Braid 3 strands together. Place on greased baking sheet, forming a nice braid. Let rise for about 30 minutes. Brush with egg. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.

Bake at 375 degrees for about 25 minutes. You may omit the sugar on top and just sprinkle with chopped almonds or nuts. Also, you may add chopped apples to the dough. Adjust the flour so dough is not sticky.
