MOM'S APPLE COBBLER
1/2 c. butter
2 c. sugar
2 c. water
1 1/2 c. self-rising flour
1/2 c. shortening
1/3 c. milk
2 c. chopped apples
1 tsp. cinnamon

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Melt butter in 13 x 9 inch baking dish. In saucepan heat sugar and water until sugar melts. Cut shortening into flour. Add milk until like biscuit dough. Turn onto floured board and roll into rectangular shape about size of pan. Sprinkle apples over dough, add cinnamon. Roll like a jelly roll (roll towards you works better).

Slice about 1/2 inch thick, lay on top of butter. Carefully pour sugar water over dough. Bake for 55 to 60 minutes. (You may use other fruits - 2 cups - if you use sugar fruit, drain and use juice for water - adjust your sugar. But always use 2 cups of liquid.)
