1 c. sugar
1/3 c. shortening
1 egg
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 4 tbsp. warm water
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. peeled diced apples
1/4 c. nuts

Cream sugar, shortening, mix in egg. Add flour and soda mixture, spice and salt. Mix in apples and nuts. Put in greased 8 or 9-inch pie pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
