PASTRY LIKE GRANDMA MADE - ONE
CRUST PIE
 
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. plus 2 tbsp. shortening

Make a flour paste from 1/4 cup of the flour and 3 tablespoons water. Cut the shortening into the remaining flour and salt until it resembles fine corn meal. Mix in paste, gently, until the pastry forms a ball.

Roll out on floured board until it will fit 9 inch pie plate. Run spatula under pastry and place in pan.

For baked shell, bake at 425 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Prick bottom and sides before baking or line pastry with pastry weights.
