GERMAN RED-CABBAGE 
1 1/2 c. water
1 med. head red cabbage
5 tbsp. cider vinegar
2 to 3 tbsp. sugar
2 med. or 2 lg. apples
1 1/2 tbsp. flour
8 slices bacon

Remove core and cut cabbage into small pieces, add diced apples and bring to boil in 1 1/2 cup water. Add sugar and bacon, let boil on low for about 30 minutes. Add vinegar and let boil on low about 15 minutes. Mix 1 1/2 tablespoons flour with a little water to lightly thicken mixture.
