PEAR-WALNUT BREAD 
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 c. sugar
1 lg. egg
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
Pinch of nutmeg
1/4 c. buttermilk
1 c. peeled, cored, coarsely chopped fresh pears
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Cream butter, gradually beat in sugar. Add egg. Combine dry ingredients and add to egg mixture alternately with buttermilk. Stir in pears, vanilla and nuts. Pour into butter loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
