BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
9 c. water
1 c. canning salt
6 qt. cucumbers, sliced 1/4 inch thick
1 qt. onions, sliced

Make brine. Let stand 3 hours, then drain and rinse.

SYRUP:

5 c. sugar
6 c. vinegar
1 tsp. turmeric
1 tsp. mustard seed
1 tsp. celery seed
