DONNA'S BAKED FRENCH ONION SOUP | |
4 to 5 c. sliced onions 4 tbsp. butter 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. sugar 1 tbsp. flour 6 slices Swiss cheese (or more) 2 1/2 c. water 2 cans Campbell's beef broth bouillon 1/2 c. sherry (any kind) Toasted French bread, sliced Campbell's is the secret! Saute onions in butter for 10 minutes. Add salt, sugar, and flour; stir until mixed. Stir in water, sherry, and beef broth; simmer 10 minutes after bringing to a boil. Place sliced bread in 275 degree oven for 10 minutes, turning and toasting after 5 minutes (watch carefully). Ladle soup into overnware bowls, placing slice of bread and slice(s) of cheese on top of bread. Put bowls on cookie sheet and place in oven for 10 minutes or until cheese is melted. Can cut recipe in half for 2 or 3. Great with a spinach salad! |
