MOM'S OATMEAL CAKE 
1 1/4 to 1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. oats
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 to 1 c. chopped nuts (optional)
1 tsp. baking soda
6 tbsp. butter
1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. evaporated milk
1 c. coconut
1/2 to 1 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. maple flavoring

Pour boiling water over oats and butter in bowl; cover and let stand 20 minutes. Add sugars, eggs, flour, cinnamon, salt and soda and beat like the dickens; stir in nuts if desired. Bake in 9 x 13 pan at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.

In saucepan, heat rest of ingredients until bubbly; stir constantly. Spread over hot cake and put under broiler until golden. Cool.
