GRANDMA'S HERMITS | |
This is a very old recipe (from the 60's) originally on a jar label. It turns out more like a bread and is wonderful!! 1/2 cup butter 1/2 cup sugar 3 tbsp. dark molasses 2 eggs 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. baking soda 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. ground cloves 1/4 tsp. mace 14/tsp. nutmeg 1/8 cup raisins 1/4 cup chopped nuts Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add Grandma's Molasses and eggs; beat well. Sift together flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder and spices; Stir in raisins and nuts. Add flour mixture to molasses mixture; blend well. Spread evenly in greased 12x8-inch baking pan. Bake in moderate oven (350°F) for 30 minutes. Cool and cut into bars. Yield: 16 Hermits Submitted by: Jan Edmonson |
