DECORATOR'S ICING (PURE WHITE) | |
1 cup shortening (I use Crisco) 2 (1 lb. ea.) boxes confectioners' sugar (Domino) 2/3 cup whole milk 1 tsp. clear vanilla 1 tsp. clear butter flavoring 1/2 tsp. almond extract 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tbsp. meringue powder (Wilton) Put liquid ingredients in large Pyrex measuring cup (more than one cup). In large mixer bowl, put shortening, confectioners' sugar and liquid ingredients. Mix slowly until all ingredients are wet. Beat on high speed for 5 minutes. Note: If icing is not smooth, refrigerate 1/2 of the icing for an hour. Add it to the other half and mix again. It will smooth out an icing that previously did not smooth out with a spatula. Variations: I have used skim milk and also left out the meringue powder and it is still good. Add more powder to make roses or thin out with light Karo syrup or milk. Submitted by: D.M. |
