BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
1 gallon cucumbers
8 sm. onions
2 green peppers
1/2 c. salt
Cracked ice
5 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. tumeric
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
2 tbsp. mustard seed
2 tbsp. celery seed
5 c. vinegar

Slice cucumbers, onions and peppers into very thin slices. Cover with salt. Cover completely with ice and stir. Allow to stand for 3 hours. Drain. Do not rinse. Combine sugar and spices with vinegar. Cook until sugar dissolves. Pour over drained cucumber mixture. Bring to a boil. Place in jars while hot and seal.
