TWINKIE CAKE | |
1 yellow cake mix 5 tbsp. flour 1 c. milk 1 c. sugar (powdered) 1/2 c. butter 1/2 c. vegetable shortening 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla Prepare cake mix as directed and bake in a 9 x 13 inch pan, letting it cool for several hours. Split cake lengthwise to make two layers and fill with cream filling below. CREAM FILLING: Using 5 tablespoons of flour and 1 cup of milk in s small saucepan, cook over low heat until thick, begin careful not to scorch. Let cool completely (mixture will be very thick). In a separate bowl cream 1/2 cup of butter, 1/2 cup vegetable shortening, and 1 cup powdered sugar. Beat until fluffy. Add 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon of vanilla while stirring. Gradually add cooled flour and milk mixture while beating. Spread between layers of cake. Sprinkle top layer with powdered sugar. Refrigerate. Chocolate cake can be used to create a giant "Susi-Q". |
