FARM - STYLE BISCUITS 
2 c. unsifted flour
4 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 c. shortening
2/3 c. milk
1 extra lg. egg, slightly beaten

Sift together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and cream of tartar. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add milk and egg all at once. Stir quickly until dough leaves sides of bowl.

Turn out dough on lightly floured board. With greased hands pat out dough until 3/4 inch thick. Cut out with cutter. Place 1 inch apart on cookie sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for about 12 minutes. Makes 10-12 biscuits. Drop by spoon on meat pies, cobblers, etc.
