DELLA'S BEAN SOUP 
1 lb. Northern or Navy beans
Water
Ham bone with generous amount of meat
1 tsp. salt
2 med. onions, chopped
3 to 4 stalks celery, chopped
1 potato, diced
1 lg. carrot, chopped

Wash beans. Then cover with water; soak 4 to 5 hours, drain. Place in large kettle with ham bone. Add salt, onions, celery and water to cover (about 3 quarts). Bring to boil, then simmer for 2 hours. Remove the ham bone, cut some of the best meat off into the soup mixture. Take remainder of ham and run through blender or food chopper along with the potato and carrot. Add this to the beans and broth and continue to simmer slowly about 1 more hour. Season to taste. Serves 10.
