GUM DROP CAKE | |
2 lbs. gum drops, cut up (do not use the black ones) 4 c. flour, divided 1 c. sugar 1 c. shortening 2 eggs, beaten 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. cloves 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking soda 1 c. hot water 1 1/2 c. applesauce 1 lb. white raisins Cut up gum drops and place in 2 cups of flour; set aside. Cream together sugar and shortening; add 2 beaten eggs, cinnamon, cloves, salt and remaining 2 cups of flour. Dissolve soda in 1 cup hot water and add to mixture. Add applesauce, raisins and gum drops in flour. Bake at 325 degrees for 2 hours if using only one loaf pan. If using 2 loaf pans, bake only one hour. GREASE PANS, HEAVILY. |
