DATE WALNUT CAKE 
1 c. sliced dates
1 c. chopped walnuts
1/3 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
4 eggs, separated
1 1/4 c. cake flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt

Cut dates and combine with nuts. Cream fat and beaten egg yolks and beat until light. Sift flour, baking powder and salt; add to batter with nuts and dates; mix well. Fold in beaten egg whites. Turn into well greased loaf pan and bake at 325 degrees for 50 minutes.
