HERB BREAD | |
2 c. boiling water 1 c. instant oats 2 tsp. salt 2 tbsp. butter 1/2 c. molasses (or honey or combination) Herb mixture 2 tbsp. yeast 2/3 c. lukewarm water 6 c. flour This mixture can vary - 2 teaspoons dried parsley, 1/4 teaspoon thyme, 1 teaspoon marjoram, 2 teaspoons basil. Rub together. (Or can add about 1 cup raisins instead of herbs.) Pour boiling water over oats. Add salt, butter and molasses (or honey). Add herb mixture. Let this mixture cool to lukewarm. Dissolve yeast in water; add to mixture. Add about 6 cups flour and knead. Let rise about 2 hours; punch down and shape. This makes 2 big loaves. Rise again (about 1/2 to 1 hour). Bake about 40-45 minutes at 350 degrees. Don't undercook. This keeps well; also freezes well. |
