FRUIT COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. white sugar
3 eggs
2 tbsp. molasses
1 c. raisins
1 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. fruit cocktail (drained)
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in hot water
3 1/2 c. sifted flour

Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and molasses. Sift flour, salt, and spices and add alternately with hot water. Stir in fruit cocktail, raisins, and nuts. Drop by teaspoonfuls on cookie sheet. Bake 10 minutes at 350 degrees. Makes 75-80 cookies.
