GRANDMA'S CHRISTMAS CAKE 
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
2 c. cold strong coffee
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
2 c. raisins
1 c. chopped nuts
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Put all the ingredients in a large pot. Bring to a boil and cook for 10 minutes. Do not try to cream together. When cool add: 3 1/2 cups sifted flour, 3 teaspoon baking soda and 1 teaspoon salt.

Grease and flour two 9 inch square pans or a 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. This cake is actually a Depression cake - eggless, butterless and milkless. My grandma has made this cake recipe for over 60 years at Christmastime.
