DOT'S BISCUITS 
1 c. self-rising flour
1/8 tsp. salt (optional)
2 tbsp. shortening (I like corn oil)
1/2 c. buttermilk
Pinch of soda

Combine flour and salt; cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add milk, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out onto a floured surface, and knead lightly 4 or 5 times. Bake at 425-450 degrees until done. Yield: 8 biscuits.
