1 1/2 c. sugar 1 1/2 c. molasses 1 1/2 c. lard or butter 2 tsp. baking soda 1 c. hot water 2 eggs, beaten 1 tsp. cloves 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. anise oil or powder 5 to 6 c. flour FROSTING: 2 1/2 c. sifted powdered sugar 2 egg whites 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar 1/4 tsp. vanilla Cook sugar, molasses and lard until dissolved. Cool. Mix soda in hot water. Add soda, mix eggs and remaining ingredients. Add enough flour to make a stiff dough. Set in cold place overnight. Roll out the dough and cut out cookies. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Frosting: Put all in a bowl and beat until stiff enough to use. |
