GRANDMA NASH'S SCOTCH COOKIES | |
1 1/2 c. lard 1 1/2 c. sugar 1 c. sorghum molasses 2 lg. eggs 3 tbsp. water 3 tsp. baking soda 1/4 tsp. allspice 1/4 tsp. cloves 2 tsp. cinnamon About 5 c. flour Cream lard and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one a time, beating well after each. Combine sorghum and water. Add dry ingredients alternately with the sorghum mixture, blending well after each addition. Add enough flour to make a thick batter (perhaps 1/3 cup more than the 5 cups called for). Dough can be wrapped and chilled. Roll out a portion at a time on lightly floured board, cut in 3 inch circles. Bake on lightly greased cookie sheet in a 350 degree oven for about 10 minutes. Do not over bake. |
