DATE OR RAISIN BARS 
2 1/2 c. raisins or dates
1/2 c. sugar (if desired)
2 tbsp. cornstarch
3/4 c. water
3 tbsp. lemon juice, if desired

Stir ingredients over low heat until thickened (about 5 minutes) and cool.

CRUMB MIXTURE:

3/4 c. soft butter
1 c. brown sugar, packed
1 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 c. oatmeal

Mix butter with sugar. Add flour, salt and soda. Then add oatmeal. Press 1/2 the mixture into greased 9 x 13 inch pan. Spread filling on top. Pat remaining crumbs on top of filling. Bake at 400 degrees for 20-30 minutes and cut into bars.
