CAKE FROSTING 
1 c. vegetable shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. cake flour
3/4 c. water
2 tsp. vanilla extract, other flavorings may be substituted
1 tbsp. cider vinegar
2 lb. powdered sugar

Use large mixing bowl for electric mixer. Mix the first 3 ingredients by hand. Add water and mix with electric mixer until water is absorbed. Add flavoring and vinegar and mix. Beat with mixer, slowly adding the powdered sugar.

Note: Cake flour can be made by adding 2 tablespoons corn starch to 1 cup all purpose flour. Sift several times. Keeps for a long time. Freezes and thaws well.

This is the frosting recipe my aunt used for wedding cakes.
