BUTTERSCOTCH NUT BARS 
1 1/3 c. flour
1 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
2/3 c. milk
1/3 c. shortening
1 egg
1 c. finely chopped nuts

Cream brown sugar, shortening and egg. Add milk and vanilla; mix well. Add remaining ingredients and beat at medium speed for 2 minutes (can be by hand). Spread in greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Cool and frost.

BUTTERSCOTCH ICING:

Melt 2 tablespoons and mix into 1/2 cup packed brown sugar and 2 tablespoons cream. Add 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Beat until smooth and spread over cooled bars.
