5 HOUR BEEF STEW 
3 lb. beef cubes
1 lg. can tomatoes (#2 1/2)
1 (10 oz.) frozen peas or green beans
6 whole carrots
3 med. onions, coarsely chopped
1 c. chopped celery
3 tbsp. Minute tapioca
1 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. salt
Pepper, thyme, marjoram, rosemary
5 med. potatoes, quartered
2 to 3 oz. red wine, optional

Put all ingredients in deep casserole, cover tightly and bake 5 hours at 225 degrees. No need to brown meat. Adjust seasonings according to your family's taste.

Try adding more vegetables (corn, lima beans, etc.), can bake at 300 to 325 degrees for 3 hours.

Big families can use a covered, deep roasting pan instead of casserole.
